Android-пользователи не могут пожаловаться на недостаток игр. Между тем на смартфонах нет развлечений, подобных на классические ролевые и стратегические игры для персональных компьютеров вроде Fallout и StarCraft. Для тех, кто желает вспомнить прошлое, нашлось, к счастью, решение в лице нового эмулятора ExaGear Strategies, позволяющего насладиться иконами жанра на Android-устройствах.

За созданием ExaGear Strategies стоит московский стартап Eltechs, намеревающийся выпустить целую линейку приложений, которые принесут классические ПК-игрушки на Android-смартфоны и планшеты в удобном, одноконтейнерном исполнении.

Всем понятно, что невозможно напрямую запустить на Android игры для Windows. Причина очевидна: они подготовлены для микропроцессорной архитектуры Intel x86, тогда как мобильные девайсы построены вокруг архитектуры ARM Holdings. Различия между ними определяют необходимость почти полной переработки кода для переноса любых программ, включая игры.

Однако ExaGear изыскала оригинальный путь. Эмулятор, обращаясь к двоичному транслятору, автоматически преобразует x86-код и передает его на исполнение слою совместимости WINE, который открывает двери Windows-программам для запуска в окружении Linux-систем. Итоговая производительность далека от совершенства, но она всё равно намного выше, чем в случае с DOSBox и прочих эмуляторов.

Основным достижением ExaGear следует считать трансформацию управления клавиатурой и мышью в сенсорное. Так, например, левый клик мыши выполняется обычным касанием к экрану, правый — более продолжительным, нажатие клавиши «Ввод» — касанием двумя пальцами, «Пробел» — тремя, вызов внутриигрового меню — четырьмя.

Следует понимать, что ExaGear Strategies является исключительно эмулятором, и для запуска какой-либо конкретной игры, ее вначале необходимо переписать в смартфон или планшет. Для этого придется установить игрушку на компьютер, а затем переместить каталог с ней (обычно находится в директории C:\Program Files) в папку ExaGear в корне встроенного флеш-накопителя Android-устройства — увы, внешние флеш-карточки пока не поддерживаются. Если игра требует наличия игрового диска, вставленного в оптический привод, файлы с него аналогично нужно перебросить в указанную папку.

Eltechs намеревается использовать технологию двоичной трансляции для запуска x86-программ на недорогих, энергоэффективных ARM-серверах. Кроме того, это же справедливо для ARM-микрокомпьютеров типа Raspberry Pi и CuBox: разработчики и энтузиасты смогут выполнять на них унаследованные приложения.

На сегодня список протестированных и адаптированных игр для ExaGear составлен из трех тайтлов: Heroes of Might and Magic 3, Disciples II: Dark Prophecy и Civilization 3 — со временем ассортимент пополнится другими популярными в прошлом игрушками. Ранее был сделано портирование шутеров Doom и Heretic. Впрочем, каждому под силу опробовать запуск в окружении ExaGear любой другой старинной игрушки.

Следует понимать, что в зависимости от мощности оборудования Android-устройства и особенностей каждой конкретной игры, последняя зачастую может притормаживать или вообще аварийно завершать работу. В целом лучше всего эмулятор справляется с двухмерными или изометрическими игрушками, нежели выполненными в 3D.

Интересна модель монетизации ExaGear Strategies. Сам по себе эмулятор бесплатен, а вот фирменные наборы виртуального управления посредством сенсорного экрана, без которых погрузиться в игровой мир будет сложновато, даже если вы подключите Bluetooth-мышь и клавиатуру, предложены за деньги. Разрешено бесплатно опробовать контроллеры в течение трех дней, затем придется заплатить 7 долларов за каждый из двух на выбор.
