Ubuntu One Files Guide for Android?

I can’t find any guide or faq anywhere so I have to ask these silly questions.

When I add a new folder to be synced it always claims the folders are empty. How do I set up folders to be synced on the Android?

The photos will not back up as well. I read another post which suggested that I may need to change where to look from DCIM to dcim. But there doesn’t seem to be a way to do this.

How do you add a new folder to be synced ;)? There is, just yet, no way to define custom folders to sync. There’s no sync at all, actually. At the moment, we only auto-upload your pictures to U1. But sync will come!

This has been fixed in 1.0.4.1 on the Android Market, please let us know if your pictures start getting uploaded. If you wish to upload you’re previous pictures, you’ll need to close the app (leave with back button or just kill it), and remove the /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.ubuntuone.android.files directory. When you launch U1F, it’ll ask if you want to upload all your pics / only future pics / none.

How do I synchronize files or directories on an Android device with Ubuntu One?

I’m missing some very basic Ubuntu One usage information, like how to synchronize the files between Ubuntu One, my Android phone, and my Ubuntu 12.04 PC.

Is there a users guide or reference manual someplace?

The android app can be found here.

The way this works is that everything in the Ubuntu One folder (located in your home folder) is automatically synchronized to the cloud. You can add more folders to be synchronized by right clicking on them in the file manager and navigating to the Ubuntu One sub menu and finally clicking Synchronize This Folder .

On Android your photos are uploaded to a folder named after the model of your phone (mine is Pictures — HTC Ruby ), and you can select files to be downloaded from Ubuntu One to your phone. These are not synchronized with their versions in the cloud after download, however.
You can upload files within the android app by navigating into a folder and hitting the + icon in the right. You will need an app like File Manager installed to be able to just select any file from the SD card, however. To do this, select Add file after tapping the + icon and select File Manager (or your preferred app) from the list.

To get your pictures or other files in Ubuntu One on your PC you need to use the Ubuntu One app for Ubuntu (Open the dash and type Ubuntu One ). Select the folders here that you want to sync to your computer:

The folders in the cloud that you select will be placed in your home folder and synchronized with other computers. For example I sync my scripts so I always have my most current work no matter which machine I turn on.

There is also a music app for Ubuntu One that requires a subscription to work. It can stream your whole music collection to you, which is great if you have an unlimited data plan. It can be found here, if you are interested.

How to access my Android’s files using Wi-Fi in Ubuntu?

Both my Ubuntu and Android phone are using the same Wi-Fi. How can I transfer files between the phone and the PC? Is there any way to mount the Android file system? I don’t want to use the USB cable. Bluetooth doesn’t work. So WiFi is the only other option.

The Android version is Jelly Bean and Ubuntu is 12.04 LTS.

There is a free application on the Google Play store called Software Data Cable:

Once you’ve installed it, turn on your WiFi connection and launch the app.

Tap on the «start service» button.

It creates a FTP server on the android device that lets you connect from any computer by opening the resource:

where 192.168.1.xxx is the IP address of your device.

You can now copy/paste files over WiFi from/to your android device.

PS — on ubuntu 18.04 get into nautilus and hit + Other Locations then at bottom enter ftp URL above into Connect to Server

My favourite application is SSHelper. It is free on google play store and well documented.

It creates a SSH server you can access using sftp. You mount the filesystem using Nautilus.

To make it more interesting; You may indeed use AirDroid, which is an android App allows you to connect to your phone interface using a web UI.

Airdroid Supported Instances

1. Connecting via network (you have to be on the same network)
2. Connecting via hotspot (device will create a network which is going to be the same network)
3. Over the internet (you will need an airdoid account)

Usage (using either same network or via device’s hotspot)

• Download the AirDroid app from Google play & Open the app
• When it is connected over WiFi or on hotspot, it will display a URL to connect to;

• Connect the given URL from your browser which will ask to allow with a prompt on your device

• once connected your device will displayed with a below message

• and the PC will give you the rest of the information

What can I do with Airdroid

There’s a lot you can do with Airdroid (even accessing your folder directories, not sure you need root or not)

1. Transfer file between phone to PC or vise verca
2. Find phone
3. Read notification
4. Operate phone calls, SMS. & many more

Another alternative would be using KDEConnect. You will also need to install the KDE Connect application from the Playstore (or F-Droid). If you are not using KDE on Ubuntu, you should also install the KDE Connect indicator.

You will also get the benefit of receiving your phone notifications on the desktop. You can connect multiple android phones and linux desktops. The connection is encrypted and all involved software is open source.

Установка и запуск Android-приложений на Linux

Как известно, многие Android-приложения можно нативно запускать на Chrome OS благодаря библиотеке Chrome App Runtime.

С помощью расширений chromeos-apk и ARChon запуск Android APK стал возможен и на других ОС.

В этой публикации я расскажу, как установить произвольное Android-приложение на Ubuntu 14.04.

Исходные инструменты:

• Ubuntu 14.04 LTS;
• Chrome 39.0 (подойдет и другая версия 37+).

Устанавливаем ARChon Runtime
1) Скачиваем и распаковываем ARChon в произвольную дирректорию;
2) Открываем Chrome и включаем Developer mode в chrome://extensions/;
3) Кликаем «Load unpacked extension» и устанавливаем распакованный ARChon.

Далее необходимо подготовить архив APK для установки.

Устанавливаем chromeos-apk
1) Для Ubuntu прежде всего нужно установить библиотеку lib32stdc++6:

2) chromeos-apk можно установить с помощью менеджера пакетов npm (поставляется вместе с node.js).
3) Сейчас можно установить непосредственно chromeos-apk:
