Sync content between your Mac and iPhone or iPad over Wi-Fi
You can sync your Mac and device when they’re connected over same Wi-Fi network. To set up Wi-Fi syncing, first connect your device to your Mac using a USB or USB-C cable. You then turn on Wi-Fi syncing and choose the settings you want. Whenever your device connects to your Mac over Wi-Fi, you can select it in the sidebar and sync it. (You can turn on automatic syncing if you want.) Your device must have iOS 5 or later or iPadOS 13 or later.
Connect your device to your Mac using a USB or USB-C cable.
In the Finder on your Mac, select the device in the Finder sidebar.
If you connect your device to your Mac using a USB cable and can’t see the device in the Finder sidebar, see If your device doesn’t appear in the sidebar.
Click General in the button bar.
Select the “Show this [device] when on Wi-Fi” tickbox.
Use the button bar to turn on and select sync settings.
Whenever your device connects to your Mac, the device’s icon appears in the sidebar. Select the device in the Finder sidebar to view or change syncing options.
Important: If you can’t see your device in the sidebar, choose Finder > Preferences, then select the CDs, DVDs and iOS Devices tickbox.
You can choose to sync your Mac and your device automatically whenever you connect them. See Turn automatic syncing on or off on Mac.
Before disconnecting your device from your Mac, click the Eject button in the Finder sidebar. The device icon disappears, but Wi-Fi syncing remains turned on. The icon reappears automatically the next time your Mac and device are connected to the same WI-Fi network.
Note: To restore your iPhone or iPad and revert it to its factory settings, you must connect the device to your Mac using a USB or USB-C cable.
Syncing over Wi-Fi is slower than syncing over a cable. If you connect a device to your Mac while the device is syncing over Wi-Fi, syncing continues over the cable. If you disconnect the device’s cable from the Mac while syncing, syncing stops even if Wi-Fi syncing is on. Syncing resumes when you reconnect the device using a cable or over Wi-Fi.

Little lost gem!
I used this app years ago and even forgot I had it installed. And then came on a use case I’ve wanted for years — and this does it! Beautifully.
Among other things, I use Remote to control the music playing on my main Mac through AirPlay to my main entertainment system. Now I can listen to the same stream in the office, family room, and outside and am free to roam about the yard without worrying about WiFi dropping out. And I still have complete control over what is playing (and volume and more) from my iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch! Can’t wait to pair some friends phones so my Mac can serve as a jukebox at the next party! I’ve always wanted to do that!
The only thing I wish it did that it doesn’t do is allow me to Add to my library! (I think I get why and it’s not too much to go over to Music and do it and then come back.)
Well done Apple.
Edited, working fantastically
After this latest update and MacOS update, working swimmingly. I love that my whole house AirPlay Setup works as designed once again!
Old rating: Had I known about the iTunes remote breaking when this Catalina upgrade came about, it would have been a deal breaker. I’ve had this app for years and used it regularly to stream music to all my airplay speakers. Worked wonderfully.
I put Catalina on my mac, and it’s broken. Apple would be wise to fix, with all the issues with the iOS and macOS, which they absurdly and uncharacteristically botched, and the anger in the community over this among other “losses”, which outweigh the “enhancements”. Apple, you were better than this.
Missing key feature
This is one of the most used apps I have on my IOS devices, using it to control a headless Mac mini music server. There are no iTunes alternatives available I’m aware off, as such it is important to me that it continues to remain relevant. For the most part it works flawlessly with a local music library, what it doesn’t do is quite astonishing, it doesn’t allow selecting music from Apple Music. If I choose an album or song in Apple Music using Remote Desktop from a Mac and then start iTunes Remote on iPad it appears in now playing and functions normally so it seems feasible. Please Apple update this app with Apple Music functionality, don’t make me email Tim Cook over such an obvious shortcoming.
Updated: Apple is rolling out lossless HiRez Apple Music soon, yet this their only remote app for controlling the Music App still cannot see any of the Apple Music streaming stuff. While Roon and Audirvana’s remote apps can do just that with their apps controlling HiRez streaming services like Qobuz and Tidal.

Please change timer feature back
After the most recent update, the quick pick for 1,3,5,10… minute timers have dropped below the custom timer, making those quick options inconvenient and slower.
Please revert the timer function back.
Thank you
Love it, but…
I truly love my Apple Watch, but I’m constantly disappointed with the sad choice of watch faces. Sue, some retro watch faces would be awesome, but at the very least, just an option to change the color of the digital clock that comes with the “photos” background would be game huge game changer. Another great idea would be to have the small led clock, that shows up on power save mode, to be always on until the screen is tapped (even when not in power save mode). I’d buy that for a dollar! That’s my favorite clock, and I can only get it by switching to power save mode! 😭I hate it when a smart watch catches my eyes, only to realize it’s not an Apple Watch!😫
Surprisingly disappointing….
Disappointed at the wasted potential, not very polished or thought out
1. Using watch to unlock iPhone is a hit or miss, not sure if it’s still looking for half of your face + a mask or what but it’s not as reliable as Android’s smart unlock
2. Brightness only has 3 levels and lowest setting is still too bright, need more granular settings
3. Screen timeout only has 2 settings both of which are too long, again need more granular settings and shorter timeout to save battery
4. No option to disable Tap screen to wake, anything with capacitance that touches/rubs on the screen will keep waking the watch and drain the battery, and the digitizer is always on.
5. Cannot view battery stats from the App, also battery settings need a list of sensors to toggle enable or disable
6. Power reserve mode is the most useless power saver mode of all smartwatches and doesn’t even last very long despite restricting everything, and any savings in battery by using the mode (if any) will just be negated by the required long reboot when turning it back to normal mode. Other smartwatches’ battery saving mode still show notifications in greyscale and do not require rebooting to turn off
