Fix: Apple Application Support was not found

The error “Apple application support was not found” usually occurs when the iTunes installer fails to complete its installation because it was either unable to access all the install files or they were not available in the installation package.

This error occurs due to a number of different reasons. The error particularly emerged after the version of iTunes was updated as well as the version of the Windows operating system. Whenever an application is being installed on your computer, all the components to be installed are first checked. If all of them are available, the installer proceeds with the installation of the software without any hindrance. If there are some missing files, the installer stops its operation and prompts you that a specific file was missing from your computer.

We have listed all the workarounds present for this error. Start with the first one and work your way down accordingly.

Solution 1: Running as Administrator

Many programs require administrator privileges to complete the installation on your computer. They need to insert their registries, add their application’s folder to your computer core files as well as access some important files to carry out the installation. Solution 2: Checking Compatibility

The most common reason why users experience this error is when the application they are running is not compatible with their PC. You should first confirm that the application and your PC are of the same bit configurations. You can check your PC’s compatibility using the following method.

  1. Press Windows + S to launch the search bar. Type “system information” in the dialogue box and open the application.

  2. Head over to Apple’s official website and download the latest version of iTunes to an accessible location.
  3. Navigate to the location where you downloaded the application, right-click it and select “Extract to iTunes64Setup\”. This string might be different if you downloaded a 32-bit application. After executing this command, a new folder will be created with the same name on your current directory.

If you are having problems extracting the installer files using WinRAR, we can create a .bat file using the notepad to extract all the installers manually. Do note that you might require administrative privileges to carry out this solution.

  1. First, we will have to change your folder options to ensure we can easily see all the file extensions of all files. Press Windows + S, type “folder options” in the dialogue box and open the application.
  2. Click on the ‘View’tab and uncheck the option “Hide extensions for known file types”. Press Apply to save changes and exit.

  1. Navigate to the location where the downloaded iTunes application is. Right-click on any empty space in the directory and select New > Text Document. Name the document as “bat”. Remember to remove the .txt extension from the name and rename the file. If you don’t remove the extension, the file will still be a text file.

  1. Now right-click on the iTunes installation folder and copy the name written in front of the application’s name field.

  1. Now open the .bat file we just created. Right-click it and select “Edit”. Paste the name of we just copied and add “/extract” after giving a space. The command should look something like this:

  1. Save the .bat and exit. You might be prompted with a warning that this may make the file unusable. Press Yes.

  1. Now run the .bat file and let Windows unzip the components. After the command prompt executes the command, you will see that the installation file of the ‘AppleApplicationSupport’ present. Now double-click the iTunes64installer. It will automatically install the installer of the other application as it iterates through all the installation when installing iTunes.

  1. Now restart your computer. After logging back in, check if the problem at hand got solved.

I have a problem with my phone. While i was updating my phone through itunes my laptop shutdown, and after i restarted the computer my phone was stuck with the itunes logo and charger cord. From then, I’ve called apple for help and support, but anythign they asked me to do or try, i have already tried and it was all a failure. so now ive started to explore google and see if anyone has had the same problems as i have, I’ve tried many things but nothing has worked out for me, so i started to use this site as a source for help and was told, to fix the problem i am having, I must remove all itunes and its components and reinstall it, so i did all that. after i finished installing, itunes could not open because apple aplication support was not found (I was told to remove this from control panel aswell) but the download that was given to me aparantly doesn’t have the apple application support, which without, i cannot run itunes, meaning, now i can’t fix my phone unless i have access to itunes.

The error that comes up is:

Apple application not found.

Apple application support is required to run itunes. Please uninstall itunes, then install itunes again.

error 2 (windows error 2)

When this error came up, i followed what it told me to do and reinstalled itunes, however, the same error came up. so i tried to download apple application support seperately but have had no luck. i could really use some good help, it’s been 3 days since my phone has stopped working and of all the things I’ve been researching, nothing has helped. Help please.

Can’t run iTunes. Already reboot, reinstall, blah blah blah. Windows Vista 32.

I found the solution myself!

1. Download and install WinRAR.
2. Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe icon and choose «Open with WinRAR».
3. Once the EXE is opened in WinRAR, double-click AppleApplicationSupport.msi and when the installer window is open choose «Repair».
4. Done! You can now run iTunes normally. 🙂

OK, this worked for me:

1. Save iTunes install file to your desktop.
2. Disconnect from internet.
3. Disable Firewall/Security software.
4. Run install. Note that it installs Application Support and a bunch of other software this time.
5. Run iTunes.
6. Enable Firewall/Security software.
7. Reconnect to internet.
8. Download Watchmen Director’s Cut post haste.

I have same problem here with winXP and iphone.

perfect apple, itunes is still **** for windows.
many error massages or even not working.
ALL versions of itunes didn’t work properly at my PC.

dotsync errors all the times with 8.0 to 8.2

9.0 isn’t starting «apple application support was not found».

I NEED THE IPHONE FOR WORK -> DATE MANAGEMENT, SYNC WITH OUTLOOK AND SO ON.

but itunes is so buggy. never seen such a bugged programm and it’s a MUST for iphone.

PLEASE APPLE fix the itunes problems for windows users!!

I found the solution myself!

1. Download and install WinRAR.
2. Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe icon and choose «Open with WinRAR».
3. Once the EXE is opened in WinRAR, double-click AppleApplicationSupport.msi and when the installer window is open choose «Repair».
4. Done! You can now run iTunes normally. 🙂

Thank you for this! I did it a little differently. I uninstalled all apple software from my PC (Vista Ultimate). Then I ran the AppleApplicationSupport.msi file. Then I ran the iTunes install. It worked. Before Windows wasl killing the AppleApplicationSupport install causing QuickTime not to run and therefore iTunes not to run.

I was minutes away from formatting my harddrive. I had it all backed up and ready to go. I really did not want to do this, so I searched for a solution again and found yours. Thank you again!

This fix is PC only. Backup your iTunes Library, uninstall iTunes then follow one of the 3 procedures listed below

1. CMD LINE — cmd line to directory containing » iTunesSetup.exe»
Type without quotes «*iTunesSetup.exe /passive /norestart*»

2. Using Batch File — Using 7zip or WinRAR, right click » iTunesSetup.exe» then «*Extract to iTunesSetup*». Using notepad, copy and paste code below then save file as » InstalliTunes.bat» in the iTunesSetup directory containing the extracted files.
