What is IMEI?
The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique number to identify GSM, WCDMA, and iDEN mobile phones, as well as some satellite phones. Mostly phone have one IMEI number, but in dual SIM phones are two.
The IMEI is only used for identifying the device and has no permanent or semi-permanent relation to the subscriber. The number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used for stopping a stolen phone from accessing the network in that country.

- Go to phone settings
- Then select the «General»
- In the «About» field you will find your iPhone IMEI
In some iPhone you can check the IMEI number on SIM card tray. In the case of CDMA network there is also a MEID number.
In some iPhone models IMEI number is engraved on the back cover. If you need to check MEID number it will be the same number as IMEI without the last digit.
Check MEID number in iPad
- Go to iPad Settings
- Then select the «General»
IMEI in Motorola Iden Phones
On the dialing screen, press [#][*][menu][right arrow] and confirm.
- If your phone has a SIM card, scroll down to «IMEI / SIM ID» section and press Enter. Here you see 14-digit phone’s IMEI. To get the full 15-digit number you must add at the end of the digit 0.
- If your phone does not have a SIM card should continue pressing the [arrow right] key until you see «IMEI [0]» The screen will display the first 7 digits to see another 7 scrolls down. To get the full 15-digit number you must added at the end of the digit 0.
The Structure of an IMEI Number
IMEI numbers either come in a 17 digit or 15 digit sequences of numbers. The IMEI format currently utilized is AA-BBBBBB-CCCCCC-D:
- AA: These two digits are for the Reporting Body Identifier, indicating the GSMA approved group that allocated the TAC (Type Allocation Code).
- BBBBBB: The remainder of the TAC (FAC)
- CCCCCC: Serial sequence of the Model (SNR)
- D: Luhn check digit of the entire model or 0 (This is an algorithm that validates the ID number) (CD)

Learn how to find the serial number, IMEI/MEID, CDN, and ICCID on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Before you begin
- You can find these numbers in several places, including Settings, on the physical device, in Finder or iTunes, and on the original packaging.
- When you contact Apple for support, you can use the serial number or the IMEI/MEID number to identify your device.

- Go to Settings > General and tap About.

- To paste this information into Apple registration or support forms, touch and hold the number to copy.

iPad and iPod touch
Find the serial number for your iPad Pro, iPad, or iPod touch on the back of the device. On an iPad (Wi-Fi + cellular model), you’ll also find the IMEI.
Finder and iTunes
You can also find the serial number for your device in Finder or iTunes:
- Connect your device to your computer.
- On a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, open the Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes.
- Locate your device. In Finder, make sure you’re under the General tab. In iTunes click the Summary tab to see its information.
- For an iPhone, click Phone Number under your device name or the device model to find the IMEI/MEID and ICCID. For an iPad (cellular model), click Serial Number to find the CDN, IMEI/MEID, and ICCID.
If you’d like to paste this information into Apple registration or support forms, choose Edit > Copy Serial Number.
If you don’t have your device
There are several places to check that might show the serial or IMEI/MEID number.
- Go to appleid.apple.com in a web browser on your computer.
- Sign in with the Apple ID that you use on your device.
- Scroll down to the Devices section. To see the serial and IMEI/MEID number, select the device.
If you still need help, here’s what to try next:
- Do you have a different device with iOS 10.3 or later that’s signed in to your Apple ID? On that device, go to Settings > [Your name]. Scroll down to see any devices signed in with your Apple ID. To view the serial and IMEI/MEID number, tap the device name.
- Do you still have your device’s original package? Find the serial number and IMEI/MEID on the barcode:

A Serial Number is a code composed of a number of letters or numbers, given to a product or series of products, to identify the place and time of manufacture, determine the legality of its origin, and sometimes also the features of the device, such as color or storage capacity.

Second method
Effective only if you have iOS 10.3 or later device, that’s signed in to the same Apple ID.
- Open the browser on and go to the Apple ID account page (appleid.apple.com)
- Log in with the proper Apple ID .
- Select this Device .
- Then, go to the Settings>[Your name] .
- Scroll down to see all devices singed to this Apple ID.
- Finally, select the wanted device name and view the serial and IMEI/MEID numbers.
