How to Find the UDID of Your iPhone or iPad

What does a UDID imply? How do you find it for iPhone? You’ll need to know the UDID of your iPhone / iPad for several reasons. This blog post talks about these reasons.

What is an iPhone UDID (Unique Device Identifier)?

A UDID is an identifying number that is unique to an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. It includes a mixture of numbers and letters and is 40 characters long.

  • What is iPhone UDID needed for? This will be needed if for instance, you want to try a software that’s not publicly released. A relevant UDID will enable you to register the device to non-official software (that’s not vetted by the App Store). This is for testers who use the software before it makes way on the App Store.
  • Is It Dangerous If Others Know Your UDID? There’s debate on this. We advise you to give UDID to trusted app developers and be careful about the beta apps you test (you still need to accept installation). Know that when a non-vetted application is installed on your device, it may not work or do something unexpected.

A limit is placed on UDID registrations so that no malware or spam is encouraged. This is the request to bypass the normal download process that the App Store has in place. Follow our guide below to find UDID on iPhone using iTunes.

Note that the phone number won’t be there in case of the iPad. Also, in a case of cellular-feature iPads, clicking UDID won’t turn it into a serial number instantly; various other identifying numbers will have to be cycled through: MEID, IMEI, Mobile Data Number and ICCID, and then it will be back to a serial number.

How to find your iPhone’s serial number, UDID, or other information

At some point in owning an iPhone or iPad, you may have noticed one or more long strings of numbers associated with strange strange names like UDID and IMEI. But what are these numbers? Here’s a breakdown:

  • Serial Number: This is a number unique to your iPhone or iPad that can be used to identify your device. Apple or your carrier will often ask for your serial number when providing support for your device, and you’ll also need your serial number if you’re looking to make a trade in.
  • UDID: Your Unique Device Identifier or UDID, is another number unique to your physical device used for identification purposes. Developers often use UDIDs when registering devices with the Apple Developer Program for use in development.
  • IMEI: Also known as the International Mobile Equipment Identify number, the IMEI is yet another unique ID number for your device. It’s used by carriers to identify valid devices on their network. You might need this number if your phone was stolen and you want to stop it from being used.
  • Model Identifier: This is a number, not unique to your iPhone or iPad, that simply identifies the model of device you have. For instance, if you have an iPhone 7 Plus, your model identifier will be iPhone9,4.

UDID — Unique Device Identifier. Apple Developer.

1. IFunBox для Windows и Mac, чтобы получить UDID для iPhone XS или iPhone XS Max;

На страничке нажимаем на зеленую кнопку «Tap to find UDID», устанавливаем сертификат в настройках — и готово, UDID вашего iOS- устройства у вас перед глазами;

Differences between UDID and UUID [duplicate]

Some people say UDID (Unique Device IDentifier) and some say UUID (Universally Unique IDentifier) . Are they are the same or not? What are the differences between them?

5 Answers 5

UUID (Universally Unique IDentifier) Is on a per-app basis. identifies an app on a device. As long as the user doesn’t completely delete the app, then this identifier will persist between app launches, and at least let you identify the same user using a particular app on a device. Unfortunately, if the user completely deletes and then reinstalls the app then the ID will change.

UDID (Unique Device Identifier) A sequence of 40 hexadecimal characters that uniquely identify an ios device. This value can be retrieved through iTunes, or found using UIDevice -uniqueIdentifier. Derived from hardware details like MAC address.

UUID (Universally Unique Identifier): A sequence of 128 bits that can guarantee uniqueness across space and time, defined by RFC 4122.

UDID (Unique Device Identifier): A sequence of 40 hexadecimal characters that uniquely identify an iOS device (the device’s Social Security Number, if you will). This value can be retrieved through iTunes, or found using UIDevice -uniqueIdentifier. Derived from hardware details like MAC address.

Apple is apparently starting to remove access to the UDID (Unique Device IDentifier) in iOS5. In any event, the best you can now do for identification purposes is to use a UUID (Universally Unique IDentifier). This has to be on a per-app basis. That is, there is no way to identify the device any longer, but you can identify an app on a device. As long as the user doesn’t completely delete the app, then this identifier will persist between app launches, and at least let you identify the same user using a particular app on a device. Unfortunately, if the user completely deletes and then reinstalls the app then the ID will change, but this is the best anyone can do going forward.
