If you have backed up your device to your computer via itunes, you can locate a file on your computer.

Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > App Store — Here you should see a file called «adoption.plist»

Select that file, hold control in the drop down select open with «Text edit»

When you open and view this file look for a line of code with the following tags XXXX
The four numbers that you will see between these tags is your «restriction passcode»

Remember that number, close the file — and you should be in.

Yes. This worked quickly and easily!! So thankful.

I’ve noticed a lot of people have posted I «forgotten» my passcode. Although it’s refreshing to see people blame themselves before others, I believe this time it’s not your fault. Security is not an issue with me so I use the same four password for everything. I know for a fact I didn’t set any passcode. These issues came up after the last ios update. All that said, the default passcode is 1234.

I have the same question however I have already backed up, set back to factory, and restored.

When I restored, it placed the restriction code back on that I don’t remember. How do I remove it?

Brilliant Ipaduser4321 I’ve just tried this and it works. I was sure I’d never set one up — I would have remembered! Thank you for posting this🙂

Follow the instructions in iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 to restore the device to factory settings.

Once you have setup the device as a new one, you can then sync it back with your iTunes account and all your music, apps, contacts and any other content sync’ed with iTunes will be loaded on the device. Any content that is stored only on the device and not sync’ed with iTunes, like app logins or data, will be lost during this process. Be forewarned that this is a long process and can take a couple of hours or more to complete. This can be painful, but it is necessarily so to prevent users from working around the security settings. After the restore is complete, you can setup a new Restrictions passcode. Make a note of the passcode to avoid this situation in future.

will this work on Microsoft also.

May 16, 2015 12:22 PM

Soo, you have already gotten a lot of replies, but this worked for me at least 🙂 28.03.2016, on ios 9.3

Connect iPad to a computer and make a backup on iTunes.

Afterwards you download pinfinder from this site https://github.com/gwatts/pinfinder/releases, and choose the file fitting your operative system.

Unzip the file, and run the program; you will recieve your passcode.

Restore to a backup taken when the code wasn’t on the device, or reset the device back to factory defaults

Feb 18, 2018 7:06 AM

Hi according to ipaduser4321 the restriction code is set by latest ios update. When asked to enter restriction code enter 1234 which is the default setting. Then you can reset it to something else. I have tried this on 2 devices and it works. Online with Apple chat, they didn’t know about it.

Jan 22, 2015 12:15 AM

This is a correct solution.

Please do tell people they are erasing all content by doing this.

It is a solution to delete restrictions, but at the same time, you are deleting all content of your iPhone.

The only option is to wipe the device clean and restore it to factory settings. Hope you have a backup.

Follow the instructions in iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 to restore the device to factory settings.

You posed this question months ago, but never late than never, right? 🙂 I was in your position a few minutes ago, but after vigorous «research» I’ve found something a bit less radical than restoring your device back to factory settings. The first thing you would need to do is create a backup of your device if you haven’t already. After doing so, you need to download a program called ‘iBackupBot’, it should be the first link on Google when you search the name. After setting up and opening the program, there should be a list in the top left hand corner. Double click on System Files > HomeDomain > Library > Preferences. On the right of the list you just clicked through, there should be a list of files. In the search bar, type com.apple.springboard.plist and double click on said file. A window may pop up asking you to buy the program, just click on ‘Cancel’ and the desired window should open. In the open window, select the find icon (the binoculars), search for us and under it, there should be a line of code that says . Click at the end of the code and press enter to open a new line where you are to type SBParentalControlsPIN then type 1234 on a new line below. When this is complete, save your code and close the window. Make sure that com.apple.springboard.plist is highlighted (if not, click on it once) then click the ‘Restore’ option. Your device will restart and the code you entered should work.

PS. Instead of ‘1234’, you may enter any four digit code of your choice.

PSS. If your backup is password protected, you need to make a new backup without a password. The program will not allow you to restore with a password protected backup. (I learnt the hard way.)

PSSS. Need I mention that your device must be plugged into your computer?

May 31, 2015 10:11 PM

This method don’t work I tried it followed the steps accurately and got a four digit passcode but when I tried it on my IOS device the passcode was incorrect.
