First Belgian Apple Store could open in Brussels on Sept. 19
AppleInsider is supported by its audience and may earn commission as an Amazon Associate and affiliate partner on qualifying purchases. These affiliate partnerships do not influence our editorial content.
Apple’s first-ever Belgian store will reportedly open in Brussels on Saturday, Sept. 19, potentially just in time for the release of new iPhones and a new Apple TV.
The store will be located on the Gulden-Vlieslaan, a prominent thoroughfare in the city, according to a document provided to Apple Nieuws Vlaanderen on Monday. The company is operating locally under the name Apple Retail Belgium.
A storefront on the street has been surrounded by a black construction facade for some time. It still has no official markings, but Apple typically uses black facades and often doesn’t make any announcements about an outlet until the week of its grand opening.
Though the timing could be coincidental, the Brussels store is due to launch just 10 days after a rumored press event on Sept. 9. The event is expected to showcase new iPhones, a new Apple TV, and possibly even new iPads, some or all of which could go on sale in time to be highlighted in Brussels.
If new iPhones appeared there however it would mark a significant change, since Belgium has never been an iPhone launch region. Locals have either had to wait or buy a device from neighboring countries France and Germany, which have long been first-tier launch regions.

Cheapest countries to buy iPhones, iPads, and other Apple products
In our never-ending quest to sort out the best-value destinations around the world, we are examining a topic that is certainly more of interest to long-term travelers as well as those who travel a lot with gadgets. Below you’ll find the countries to buy cheap apple products, or at least as cheap as they are available, because Apple products aren’t exactly cheap anywhere in the world.
We recently published a list of the cheapest countries to buy electronic items in general, but we separated Apple products into their own list because the Apple world doesn’t work the same as other brands.
(The article linked above uses late 2012 prices for iPads in 35 countries. The article below uses 2011 prices for 28 countries)
As with the other list, the data here is provided by Pricerunner, which is a UK-based comparison-shopping service. In late 2011 they researched the 28 different cities below (in 27 different countries) to find the best price possible for 3 different popular Apple products.
Unlike the other brands, Apple is famous for tightly controlling its retail market, with prices being virtually identical within each country. With that in mind, it’s perhaps even a bit more surprising to discover that the exact same products cost almost double in the most expensive city compared to the cheapest.
Products researched for this list
- Macbook Air, 13.3″
- Apple iPad 2 Wi-Fi, 32GB
- Apple iPhone 4, 16GB
Each of the three items was researched in late 2011 for the prevailing price in each city, and then the total of all three was combined. The Macbook Air costs about the same price as the other two items combined in every market, but still most things are proportional so it’s not like there’s a city that has cheap iPhones and expensive Macbook Airs.
Cheapest countries for Apple products
(Research was done in GBP and converted to USD in March, 2012)
- $2,225 – Tokyo, Japan
- $2,446 – Bangkok, Thailand
- $2,548 – San Francisco, USA
- $2,601 – Sydney, Australia
- $2,745 – New York, USA
- $2,779 – Dubai, UAE
- $3,006 – Cape Town, South Africa
- $3,160 – Stockholm, Sweden
- $3,222 – Warsaw, Poland
- $3,264 – Prague, Czech Republic
- $3,280 – London, England
- $3,308 – Oslo, Norway
- $3,347 – Amsterdam, Netherlands
- $3,411 – Dublin, Ireland
- $3,436 – Mumbai, India
- $3,452 – Copenhagen, Denmark
- $3,480 – Brussels, Belgium
- $3,484 – Madrid, Spain
- $3,516 – Moscow, Russia
- $3,544 – Paris, France
- $3,576 – Athens, Greece
- $3,591 – Reykjavik, Iceland
- $3,619 – Rome, Italy
- $3,645 – Lisbon, Portugal
- $3,646 – Helsinki, Finland
- $3,753 – Vilnius, Lithuania
- $3,800 – Vienna, Austria
- $4,160 – Sao Paolo, Brazil
Japan is cheapest again
Just as on the list of electronic gadgets in general, Japan comes out as the cheapest, which seems at least a bit surprising. Their high rents and high wages seem to be more than offset by low import taxes combined with great wholesale prices due to massive demand.
Perhaps just as surprising is that Stockholm comes out as the cheapest of the European markets researched for Apple products. They are among the most expensive for other electronics gear, and one of the most expensive places in the world in general. Cape Town also shows up as a relative bargain for Apple products compared to other high-tech gear.
Where to buy if you are traveling
Most people seem to know that the United States has among the lowest prices on almost anything electronic, especially if you can buy tax-free either online or in one of the states with no sales tax. Many people routinely bring an empty suitcase when coming from Europe to the US because savings are so big.
Most European countries seem to charge about 40% more for Apple products than in the United States, which is frightening when you consider how much more Apple products cost compared to other brands of the same type of item.
Needless to say, new Apple products will continue to be released, but the rankings above should continue to stay very constant, at least until some countries unexpectedly lowers taxes or Japan unexpectedly raises import duties.
With Apple products at least, it’s comforting to know that anyone heading to Australia or Thailand (plus Japan, of course) can also find great deals compared to home.

Where to buy iphone 5 in brussels
Yes. An unconnected iPhone purchased from apple.com is unlocked. Once your new iPhone is activate, it remains unlocked, which means you can use it with any network that provides service for iPhone.
Is it easy to transfer my data and set up my new iPhone?
Yes, iCloud makes moving your settings, photos, apps and documents to a new device seamless. Just sign in to iCloud when you set up your new device, access your previous device’s iCloud backup and you’ll be ready to go in minutes.
Don’t have enough iCloud storage to complete a backup? iCloud will grant you enough temporary storage to make sure you can back up your device and get all of your data transferred, free of charge (iOS 15 required).
With Quick Start, you can restore your data and content to your new iPhone from your iCloud backup. For phones using iOS 12.4 or later, Quick Start offers the option of using device-to-device migration, allowing you to transfer all your data wirelessly from your current device to your new one.
If you are switching from Android, you need to download the Move to iOS app first and follow the setup process on your new iPhone.
To learn how to transfer data to your new iPhone, see support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201269.
Will my iPhone work worldwide?
iPhone models currently sold on apple.com work with compatible networks around the world, including 5G and 4G LTE networks. Check with your home network provider regarding international roaming charges, or purchase a compatible nano-SIM at your destination.
Which network providers offer 5G service?
iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are 5G capable. For 5G access, you need to activate your iPhone with a network provider that offers 5G service. Some providers may also require a 5G service plan or a new SIM. Contact your provider for more information. Learn more about network providers in your country here.
How does financing with monthly payments work?
To spread out the cost of your iPhone with monthly payments, simply select your new iPhone and whether you’d like to add a trade-in, then select Monthly Payments. You can also add AppleCare+ if desired.
As part of checkout, you’ll complete the Barclays loan application. Barclays will notify you of their decision immediately. If you have an iPhone to trade in, we’ll either apply its value as an instant credit to your loan amount, or we’ll recycle it for free if it’s not eligible for trade-in.
If you have a trade-in, we’ll send further instructions.
How does the iPhone Upgrade Programme work?
The iPhone Upgrade Programme is the easiest way to upgrade to the latest iPhone and also offers the security and protection of AppleCare+.
If you are new to the iPhone Upgrade Programme, you can learn more about joining here.
If you are already part of the programme, start by checking your upgrade status to see if you’re eligible for a new iPhone. If you are, you can either proceed with your upgrade online or visit an Apple Store and chat with a Specialist. You can upgrade anytime after six months, as long as you’ve made the equivalent of at least 12 payments. If you have to pay an additional amount to meet your 12 payments, you can do it when you upgrade. We will arrange for you to trade in your old iPhone as part of the programme, so please do not trade in your current iPhone using the standard Apple Trade In option.
How does Apple Trade In work?
Apple Trade In makes it easy to get credit towards the purchase of your next iPhone. Simply answer a few questions about your device. Based on what you tell us, we’ll provide an estimated trade-in value. If you pay monthly, we’ll apply the value as instant credit to lower the monthly payments of your new iPhone. If you pay in full, we’ll credit your payment method after we receive your trade-in. If it’s not eligible for credit, you can recycle it for free.
After your new iPhone ships, we’ll send you a free trade-in kit with instructions and a pre-paid shipping label. When we receive your trade-in, we’ll verify its condition and if everything checks out, your trade-in will be complete. If your device doesn’t match the condition you described, you’ll receive an email with next steps. If you paid in full and the value of your device was more than the cost of your new iPhone, you’ll receive an Apple Gift Card by email with the remaining amount.
The online trade-in process generally takes two to three weeks.
You can also trade in your device at an Apple Store at the point of purchase. However, the trade-in value in the store may be different from the estimated trade-in value you received online.
What is included with AppleCare+?
Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support.
With AppleCare+, your coverage is extended to two years. You will have 24/7 priority access to Apple Support and Apple hardware coverage and software support. It also includes up to two incidents of accidental damage protection every 12 months. ◊

The returned iPhone must be in good condition and in the original packaging, which contains all accessories, manuals and instructions. Returns are subject to Apple’s Sales and Refunds Policy.

- The display has rounded corners that follow a beautiful curved design, and these corners are within a standard rectangle. When measured as a standard rectangular shape, the screen is 5.42 inches (iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 mini), 6.06 inches (iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 12) or 6.68 inches (iPhone 13 Pro Max) diagonally. Actual viewable area is less.
- Available space is less and varies due to many factors. A standard configuration uses approximately 12GB to 17GB of space, including iOS 15 with its latest features and Apple apps that can be deleted. Apple apps that can be deleted use about 4.5GB of space, and you can download them back from the App Store. Storage capacity subject to change based on software version, settings and iPhone model.
- All battery claims depend on network configuration and many other factors; actual results will vary. Battery has limited recharge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced by an Apple service provider. Battery life and charge cycles vary by use and settings. See apple.com/uk/batteries and apple.com/uk/iphone/battery.html for more information.
- Data plan required. 5G is available in selected markets and through selected network providers. Speeds vary based on site conditions and network. For details on 5G support, contact your provider and see apple.com/uk/iphone/cellular.
