Will iphone 6 have touch id

Use Touch ID on iPhone and iPad

Learn how to set up and use Touch ID, a fingerprint identity sensor that makes it easy for you to get into your device.

Set up Touch ID

Where is the Touch ID sensor?

The Touch ID sensor is either in the Home button or—on iPad Air (4th generation)—the top button. When you follow the steps below, the onscreen instructions will tell you which button to use.

Set up Touch ID

Before you can set up Touch ID, you need to create a passcode for your device.* Then follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the Touch ID sensor and your finger are clean and dry.
  2. Tap Settings > Touch ID & Passcode, then enter your passcode.
  3. Tap Add a Fingerprint and hold your device as you normally would when touching the Touch ID sensor.
  4. Touch the Touch ID sensor with your finger—but don’t press. Hold it there until you feel a quick vibration, or until you’re asked to lift your finger.
  5. Continue to lift and rest your finger slowly, making small adjustments to the position of your finger each time.
  6. The next screen asks you to adjust your grip. Hold your device as you normally would when unlocking it, and touch the Touch ID sensor with the outer areas of your fingertip, instead of the center portion that you scanned first.

If you have trouble enrolling one finger, try another. Still need help setting up Touch ID?

* Touch ID and Face ID are available on certain iPhone and iPad models.

Use Touch ID to unlock your iPhone or make purchases

After you set up Touch ID, you can use Touch ID to unlock your iPhone. Just press the Touch ID sensor using the finger you registered with Touch ID.

Make purchases with Touch ID

You can use Touch ID instead of your Apple ID password to make purchases in the iTunes Store, App Store, and Apple Books. Just follow these steps:

  1. Make sure iTunes & App Store is turned on under Settings > Touch ID & Passcode. If you can’t turn it on, you might need to sign in with your Apple ID in Settings > iTunes & App Store.
  2. Open the iTunes Store, App Store, or Apple Books.
  3. Tap something to buy. You’ll see a Touch ID prompt.
  4. To make a purchase, lightly touch the Touch ID sensor.

Use Touch ID for Apple Pay

With an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus or later, you can use Touch ID to make Apple Pay purchases in stores, within apps, and on websites in Safari. You can also use Touch ID on your iPhone to complete website purchases from your Mac. If you have an iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 or iPad Mini 3 or later, you can use Touch ID for Apple Pay purchases within apps and on websites in Safari.

Manage your Touch ID settings

Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode to manage these settings:

  • Turn Touch ID on or off for Passcode, iTunes & App Store, or Apple Pay.
  • Enroll up to five fingerprints. Each new print might make fingerprint recognition take slightly longer.
  • Tap a fingerprint to rename it.
  • Swipe to delete a fingerprint.
  • Identify a fingerprint in the list by touching the Touch ID sensor. The matching print in the list will be highlighted briefly.

Press the Touch ID sensor using Touch ID to unlock your device. To unlock your device using Touch ID without pressing the Touch ID sensor, go to Settings > Accessibility > Home Button [or top button] and turn on Rest Finger to Open.

Where is the Touch ID sensor?

The Touch ID sensor is either in the Home button or—on iPad mini (6th generation) and iPad Air (4th generation)—the top button. When you follow the steps below, the onscreen instructions will tell you which button to use. If you’re not sure, learn which button is which on your iPad.

Follow these steps. Try using Touch ID after each step:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.
  2. Make sure that your fingers and the Touch ID sensor are clean and dry.* For the Touch ID sensor, use a clean, lint-free cloth to wipe off any dirt or debris.
  3. Your finger should cover the Touch ID sensor completely, touching the surrounding metal ring. While Touch ID is scanning, you shouldn’t tap too quickly or move your finger around.
  4. If you’re using a case or screen protector, make sure it doesn’t cover the Touch ID sensor or the surrounding ring.
  5. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and make sure that iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on, and that you’ve enrolled one or more fingerprints.
  6. Try enrolling a different finger.

Still not working?

If the previous steps didn’t help, you see «Failed—unable to complete Touch ID setup», or either of the following happen when you go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact Apple Support:

  • You can’t turn on Touch ID
  • Touch ID is dimmed or grayed out

If you need to enter your passcode

You might need to enter your passcode or Apple ID instead of using Touch ID in these situations:

  • You just restarted your device
  • Your fingerprint isn’t recognized five times in a row
  • You haven’t unlocked your device in more than 48 hours
  • You just enrolled or deleted fingerprints
  • You’re trying to open Touch ID & Passcode in the Settings menu
  • You used Emergency SOS.

* Moisture, lotions, sweat, oils, cuts, or dry skin might affect fingerprint recognition. Certain activities can also temporarily affect fingerprint recognition, including exercising, showering, swimming, cooking, or other conditions or changes that affect your fingerprint.

Какие айфоны имеют Touch ID?

Apple has replaced the Touch ID fingerprint scanner with Face ID on many of its popular devices, but many people still prefer the old system — traditionally embedded in a trusted Home button. Fortunately, many iPhones and iPads still have Touch ID as their primary way to unlock them. Today you will find out which Apple products have a fingerprint scanner and which still have a Home button, we also explain how different versions of Touch ID affect performance.

At the very beginning, let’s explain what Touch ID is and how it works.
What is Touch ID?

Briefly speaking, Touch ID is Apple’s biometric fingerprint recognition system, used to verify Apple Pay payments and to fill in device passwords and passwords in the application. First introduced in 2013. Touch ID is based on the capacitive touch sensor that can read and analyze the subcuticular layer of skin to identify each person’s unique fingerprint to make it easier to perform tasks such as downloading applications and unlocking iOS devices. Touch ID is available in your applications Apple and third-party applications, allowing users to protect sensitive data such as passwords or notes, using fingerprint.

The fingerprint data used for Touch ID is stored directly on each iOS device in a «Secure Enclave» and is never available in the cloud.

Touch ID versions

So far, there are two generations of Touch ID technology, the first was introduced in 2013, the second was introduced with the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in 2015, and boasts speeds up to twice as fast as its predecessor. As for the second-generation Touch ID, it is noticeably faster and more reliable, and it is worth investing in. Fortunately, it’s used in all the latest iPhones that come with fingerprint scanners — in fact, you’ll have a hard time finding one that still uses first-generation Touch ID. Surprisingly, Apple still makes some first-generation Touch ID iPads, so keep in mind that this will be slower than the second-generation model.

Question: Q: iPhone 6 touch id not working after screen replacement

I recently had a cracked screen on my iphone 6 replaced and now the touch id does not work. When I go to set up touch id, it does not read my fingerprint when it says to input your fingerprint. also the double tap on the home button to bring the screen halfway down does not work. I tried restarting the phone, and we even did a complete wipe to default with no luck. Updating to iOS 9 did not change it either. The guy who fixed my phone thinks its the touch id sensor, but he has had trouble getting a new one to put in the phone. Has anyone had this issue as well? Is what he wants to do the right solution? Any suggestions?

Did you have Apple or an authorized Apple Service provider replace the screen? If not, then you have discovered that the screen, home button and Touch ID are all connected, and the generic replacement of the screen by non-authorized service personnel will result in this happening. If you attempt to restore the phone, you may also receive an error, normally an error 53. You may return the device to the person you had do the service to demand he fix it, but I doubt that will do any good. And, since you have allowed an unauthorized service provider open the device, Apple will no longer service it. You may need to purchase a new phone. He cannot get parts because Apple does not sell parts. OEM parts are not available, most are either salvage or stolen parts.

Take it back to the Apple store you had it repaired at.

Sep 18, 2015 9:22 AM

I haven’t been getting any error messages, its just not recognizing my finger. I didn’t have this repaired by Apple, it was a guy the local Verizon store referred me to. The phone was basically unusuable due to the locations of the crack, so I had to have it fixed the night it happened and the Apple store did not have any open appointments for several days. Also he took the home button off of my cracked screen and put it on the new one. So are you saying that it won’t work because there’s a new screen?

I’m saying that everything is connected with the new phones and Touch ID. Everything needs to match or it won’t work. If you went to Verizon, then you must be in the US. Most, if not all of the Apple stores in the US have walk-in appointments available in the case of an emergency like you experienced. Like I said, Apple will no longer work on that device, so you are on your own. How you determine to get it fixed now is up to you, but I would start with the person that replaced the screen and see what kind of guarantee or warranty he has on his work. The device doesn’t work and he worked on it. Either he is responsible, or you try to find another competent service center, or you purchase a new phone. Next time, only let Apple work on the device.

the touch will not work for aftermarket repair

if you repair the iphone in apple it will work for you but now it won’t.

Sep 18, 2015 11:12 AM

So what I’m trying to figure out is this a fixable problem? Or will it never work again since the screen is different?

Sep 18, 2015 11:12 AM

It might be fixable if the shop can change out everything. However, my understanding of how it works is that the screen, Touch ID and motherboard are tied together. Only Apple can make a screen change and make it work. I had mine changed by the Apple store under warranty on my 5s last week when a yellow colored line began to appear on the left side of the screen. I can tell you that besides the screen being new, I can tell the home button is different as well by the way it works. It is recognizably different from the one that was on there. I had to also delete all of my fingerprints before they changed the screen, and then add them back after I got the device back.

Find out what this shop that Verizon recommended to you has to say.

You will need to contact Apple.

or set up an appt at an Apple Store Genius bar -> Make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store Genius Bar

You need to work directly with Apple. This is a user to user support forum, no one here could do anything about your issue.
