Constantine_D,
Blacklist?

Question: Q: How to unlock Sprint iPhone 5?
Sprint gave me the unlock code for my iphone5 as my contract is done. Took phone to TMobile and when they installed their SIM card, got an error message that said, Invalid SIM. Contacted Sprint and they said that TMobile should know how to unlock the phone with the unlock code I have. Contacted Apple and they said they could not help. I am very frustrated. Can anyone help? 😐 Thanks.

Ok, so LOTS of misinformation out there.
1. If you received an «unlock code», your phone will not unlock. Iphones don’t have an unlock code. Unfortunately, Sprint support is horrible, just like all the rest of them. they give you misinformation all the time. Unlock of an Apple device comes from Apple itself. Sprint sends a request to unlock the device. When your phone connects to the Apple servers, it updates your phone, and allows the sim card to be unlock. There is no code to deal with. They gave you the MSL code, which is use for Android devices, not Apple devices.
2. Once Apple receives the request from Sprint to unlock the phone, your phone needs to communicate with the Apple servers. That can be done in many ways. The easiest, is to simply drop in your sim card, and the new software automatically searches and updates the carrier settings, and your phone simply works. This works about 90% of the time now days, but it might have something to do with which IOS you are on. If that doesn’t work, you can put your sim card in, and plug into iTunes. You should get a message saying Congratulations your phone is unlocked. If not, the last resort is to do a complete restore of your phone from iTunes. At the end, you should get the congratulations.
yes, you can use a Sprint Iphone 5 on a GSM network, even in the USA. Sprint claims that the 4s and 5 are only unlocked for International use, but that is simply not true. @ Ethmoid , you mention the problem is using a CDMA device on a GSM network, but there is no problem there, as the Iphone 5 can handle both, as it has both radios. It simply needs a sim unlock. Maybe you were thinking something else.
The bottom line is, that it sounds like your phone is NOT unlocked, due to the fact that you received a code from Sprint. This is not an unlock. You need to go back to them and demand they unlock your phone the «factory» way.

You need to go back to Sprint. There is no code used in unlocking an iphone. Sprint would need to send a message to Apple telling them to process an unlock for your device. You would then process the unlock by doing the following:

That has got to be the craziest statement ever made by a carrier. The process to submit an unlock hasn’t changed. They do it the same as they always did. They are just blowing you off. The iPhones and carriers do not use a code to unlock devices. I suggest you work your way up the customer service ladder until you reach someone that actually knows what they are doing.

The person you spoke to may not know, so you need to tell them to get a manager on the phone with you. Unlocking an iPhone does not, and never has used any code or manual data entry on the device. That is not, and never has been, how iphones are unlocked. You are being given completely false information and need to escalate your support calls to Sprint.
Your new carrier cannot unlock the device for you. Sprint needs to follow the normal process for unlocking an iPhone. Which is and always has been for them to submit the unlock authorization to Apple for processing.

They said their is no one else to talk to . The device I am trying to unlock is a iPhone 5. Their is no unlock request to be made that the new provider will have to enter the MSL code they gave me . When they install their carrier simm it will prompt them to enter the msl code. I told her that was not the case the message the screen shows is invalid simm provider lock . She said it’s the carrier. My phone is not compatible with that carrier.

One more time. There is no code used in unlocking an iPhone. There never has been any code used in unlocking an iPhone. I and others have unlocked many iPhones over the years. The process is, and always has been:
1. the user requests the unlock with their carrier or the carrier the device is locked to
2. The carrier the device is locked to authorizes the unlock and, internal to their company, sends that authorization to Apple
3. Apple provisions the authorized unlock in their hardware database
4. The user applies the unlock to their handset through a restore as new in iTunes.
The Sprint reps you are talking to are flat out wrong . The carrier you take it to will be unable to do a single thing to help you. This is on Sprint, and only Sprint can fix it.
The invalid SIM error message will appear with any carrier when using an carrier-locked phone on another network. All that message is telling you is that your phone is indeed still locked to Sprint and will not work with any other carrier until Sprint properly completes your unlock request.

I’m staying with sprint but they won’t unlock my phone for nothing

No one here can help you if Sprint is refusing to unlock the phone.
Only the carrier to whom the phone is locked can do the unlocking.
May 30, 2014 5:11 PM
Sprint never has.
May 30, 2014 5:21 PM
Unlock it for nothing or unlock at all?
Apple will unlock a Sprint subscribers phone, for nothing, if they qualify with Sprint’s requirements but it will only be for use with non-US carriers.
May 30, 2014 5:29 PM
At this point in time you are out of luck. Sprint is not abiding by the CTIA agreement at this point in time. They have until 1/1/2015 to fully comply.
I paid my ETF with Sprint and requested they unlock my iPhone 5. They provided me an MSL Code which is useless for iPhones. The rep assured me that the unlock code would unlock my iPhone (a lie). Their technicians stated my iPhone cannot work on TMobile or AT&T (which is a lie).
I had a three-way call where an apple tech and a sprint tech discussed the issue. The Sprint technician stated they have no way to unlock the iPhone (headquarters has not allowed the unlocking of iPhones).
I filed complaints with the BBB and the FCC. I got a call from a sprint rep conerning my FCC complaint and he stated they will try to unlock my iPhone 5. I did not hear form hi for about two weeks so I called him back. The rep stated Sprint would not unlock my iPhone and that he ahd sent a letter stating Sprint would not unlock my iPhone.
Sprint has repeatedly lied about unlocking iPhones and why they canot unlock iPhones. I was fortunate enough to move to TMobile and have great coverage everywhere I go.

First, you come to the US and sign up for service on Sprint. You maintain service for 90 days. Then, you ask Sprint to unlock it for international use. AFTER they agree, and the unlock is complete, you cancel your Sprint service and take the phone to whatever country you intend to use it in.

Sprint will only authorize the unlocking of the sim slot for current customers, in good standing, using the phone on their network.
So, if you are not currently using the phone on their network, & your account is not in good standing, they will not approve your unlock request.
There’s no other way to get the sim slot officially unlocked.
May 23, 2014 2:54 AM
Thanks. The phone is in good standing ( all bills paid, clean ESN). Not on the network any more.
May 23, 2014 3:08 AM
Not on the network any more.
Then they will most likely deny your unlocking request. They will most likely tell you to «Contact Apple». However, Apple does not unlock carrier locked iPhones.

If you look at www.sprint.com/unlock
They clearly say that if I can provide phone number or account number of the account last associated with the device.
Sprint will provide the MSL Code on a Sprint device under the following circumstances:
- The person requesting the MSL Code is a current or former Sprint customer or an individual owner who can provide the phone number or account number for the account last associated with the device
- The account associated with the device is in good standing, including but not limited to:
- Service Agreement or Installment Billing Agreement is fulfilled, Current Sprint customers still subject to an unfulfilled Service Agreement or Installment Billing Agreement can fulfill this requirement by paying the applicable early termination fee or «ETF» or the remaining device balance, respectively
- Payments are current,
- No write-off balance,
- Not associated with a phone sent to collections
- The device has not been reported as lost or stolen
