First-class upgrades

Installing software or updates to your network has never been this easy. Take an existing package, from either Apple or a third party, and simply use the Install Package to copy and install on your client computers. And it works with custom install packages as well. Apple Remote Desktop will alert your system’s users to upgrades and even restart machines remotely.

AutoInstall allows you to stage software on a Task Server, which then takes care of distributing the packages for installation on client computers. You can even set a schedule for installation to occur at a time that is most convenient for your organization. And if a computer is not on the network, the Task Server will keep track and automatically install the package once the system is online.

Automation for your Mac computers

Those time-consuming administrative tasks will become a thing of the past, thanks to Automator actions in Apple Remote Desktop. To use Automator actions, all you need to do is drag and drop the actions to construct a workflow.

More than 40 Automator actions are included with Apple Remote Desktop, which you can apply to set desktop pictures, Finder preferences, Energy Saver preferences, default time zones, and more.

No need to make house calls

The screen-sharing features of Apple Remote Desktop allow you to provide immediate help to remote users, saving time for both of you. Don’t want your admin tasks to be seen? No problem. Turn on Curtain Mode to block the local user’s view of their desktop. This is perfect when you’re updating a public display. You’ll have full control of the system, but your work will be hidden from view.

If you need to move files or folders to a single computer, the easy-to-use Remote Drag and Drop copy function makes the job a snap. You can also copy and paste between local and remote systems — no extra steps necessary.

Reporting for duty

Remote Spotlight search takes advantage of one of the most powerful features of OS X. Now you can perform lightning-fast, user-specified searches on remote client systems. Files from the results can be copied to the administrator system for reporting.

Apple Remote Desktop also makes it easy to compile reports on application usage, history, inventory, and more. Hardware reports gather more than 200 attributes about networked Mac systems, while software reports collect information on 16 file system attributes. Inventory reports can be gathered even from mobile systems not connected to the network, and results are stored in the included SQL database for fast access.

Алё, уважаемые «разработчики», Вы там ничего не перепутали, не?

То, что вы видите, связано с ошибкой в macOS 10.14. Операционная система не удаляла уменьшенные изображения. Это исправлено в macOS 10.14.1. Закройте клиентское приложение удаленного рабочего стола, а затем удалите все файлы в _EXTERNAL_DATA, чтобы освободить место.

Manage computers with Remote Desktop

Remote Desktop provides several ways to manage client computers and perform housekeeping activities.

Schedule shutdown and restart

You can turn off all Mac computers during maintenance or a holiday shutdown, or have them all start up before school starts. See Sleep, shut down, log out, or restart a computer. You can also send a Remote Desktop message—for example, reminding users to shut down their computers at a particular time. For information, see Send messages.

Rename computers

You can rename each user’s Mac computer using the user’s name to make it easier to manage computers as users move from class to class with their Mac. For information, see Set preferences on client computers.

Send UNIX commands

Use Remote Desktop to distribute and run UNIX shell scripts on Mac computers. For example, use a script to turn the volume up or down, mount a share point, repair disk permissions, or set a web proxy. For information, see Execute commands remotely.

Set startup disks

Change the startup disk of a Mac to perform diagnostic or troubleshooting activities. For information, see Set preferences on client computers.

Manage computer lists

Use computer lists to manage software for groups of computers. You can create computer lists for different purposes. For example, you can create a computer list for Mac portables that 8th grade users carry from class to class and a different computer list for a science lab with Mac desktops. Fantastic, fast, and smooth from my small use

Had no qualms with the “square logo” version. I used it often, using both Active Directory logins and local logins. Did mass software installs on multiple machines simultaneously all remotely from the app. This one I feel like runs even faster and smoother than the last one! Great job, devs. I also can see on here that the devs are responding to many of the (often unbelievably whiny and uppity) complaints on this review page, often proving the customer wrong or letting them know that their desired feature is forthcoming. Thank you for your dedication, dev team. I feel these guys deserve a 5-star review. The average rating for this app largely seems to be due to customers’ ineptitude or ignorance, so the rating really isn’t fair or telling of the quality of the app.

nearly perfect

I have a specific usage case — I work in a multiplatform environment in which I work on the Mac and on the PC. I don’t want to keep changing physical keyboards, so despite the fact that the two physical machines are next to eachother beneath my desk, I use remote desktop to view and operate the PC while working on the Mac. This works reasonable well except that the Remote Desktop Service on the PC requires that I can only be logged in either via the Remote Desktop app OR the PC itself. Since there are some operations that cannot be performed via RDP — attaching to a VPN being one of them — it would be nice if I could just leave the PC logged in and operate it via Remote Desktop at the same time. Now, I’m sure there really IS such a way, but the internet is not my friend in helping me find it. So properly-speaking, this probably a complaint about the service and not the client app, but the entire eco-system is failing me in small ways. Also, while I appreciate the option that allows the Apple key to be interchangable with ctrl for edit operations and find, it doesn’t seem to work consistently, and as everyone who has ever switched back and forth between the Mac and Windows knows, confusion over which meta key to use in editing will eventually cause brain damage and is likely to send hardware on ballistic journeys through windows (not Windows).

Current version resets many times a da

Update: latest version now just resets over and over all day. It takes a good 30 seconds and sometimes I have to just disconnect the RDP and reconnect it in order to be able to work again. I really miss the old RDP versions here on the Mac that just worked all day long. I still need this tool every day.

Not sure why you keep breaking a tool that so many rely on daily.

This latest version crashes (on the Mac) if I type too fast in Visual Studio on my Windows Desktop at work. I get the spinning beachball- have to exit to the Mac, force quit MRD and restart it, then reconnect. I’m finding myself doing this at least 2 or 3 times per hour! I try to type slowly, but then end up getting really focused on my work and start moving faster. I use VI so I’m typing everything and it seems to be when I’m repeating an edit over and over that it crashes MRD. This is a Productivity KILLER! Like I said it happens when I’m focused and your bug is a sure way to kill that focus — every time! I wish it were easier to revert to an older version. I was forced to update when I upgraded to Mojave and decided to start clean and re-install everything. This is the only app that makes me regret that decision!! I was on an old stable version and had been refusing to update. Sigh!
